New Officers Installed
On Jan. 1, 2007, Jim Maxwell of Woodway, Tex., became the third President in Clan Maxwell USA's 42 year history. He succeeded Larry Long of Kingsport, Tenn., who had served a President for 22 years. Earlier, our founder, Murvan M. (Scotty) Maxwell of New Orleans had served 20 years in the position. Along with Jim, two new Vice Presidents also took office on Jan. 1, 2007: Phil Johnson of Madison, Ala., and David Maxwell of Dayton, Ohio.
Larry and Catherine Long Scholarship Fund Established
With the retirement of Larry Long after 22 years as our President and the recent retirement of Catherine Long after many years as our Secretary, the Clan Maxwell Society of the USA has established the Larry and Catherine Long Scholarships in their honor. Announced at the 2006 Annual General Meeting at the Stone Mountain (Ga.) Scottish Festival, the annual scholarships will go to deserving young people for seminars, courses or other educational opportunities focused on their Scottish heritage.
Memorial Fund Honors Scotty Maxwell
Clan Maxwell USA established the Murvan M. Maxwell Memorial Fund to honor our Founder and Chieftain, Scotty Maxwell shortly after his death in 2002. At the 2006 Annual General Meeting of Clan Maxwell, it was agreed to use the donated funds as a memorial gift to the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in North Carolina. Scotty was instrumental in the development of the Grandfather Mountain games into America's premier Scottish festival, and it is appropriate that our memorial to him be focused on a place and event which was so close to his heart. Finding the "Lost" Maxwell Castle
Work continues on the historical research to produce a visual representation of the "lost" Maxwell Castle which once stood in Dumfries, Scotland. This project was adopted and funded by Clan Maxwell USA in 2000. For an update on the progress, click here.
